[fa icon="plus-square"] Firmware Engineer


Develop and improve new and current product lines.  Manage the diagnosis and improvement of products when needed.

Firmware Engineer Description

  • Design, develop and implement embedded firmware or embedded software.
  • Generate firmware description, flow chart, and block diagram as required
  • Work with internal and external resources on design optimization
  • Plan and create effective test protocols to verify and validate engineering designs to product requirements
  • Support general software request from other departments
  • Support of returned product review including implementation of preventive or corrective actions
  • Uses a combination of logic, experience, analysis, and methodologies to make solid, timely decisions, and solve problems. 

Qualifications & Certifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering with 2 to 5 years of relative experience.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with the embedded firmware development.
  • Working experience with using CAD software to edit schematics and debugging tools.
  • Working knowledge in mixed-signal peripheral. Strong skills in using lab equipment (e.g. Oscilloscope, function generator).
  • Familiarity and some practical experience with the manufacturing process (i.e. boot loader, in-circuit parameter tester).
  • Strong verbal communications skills (English)
  • Experience with PIC, ARM, CORTEX.

Preferred Skills/Certifications/Experience:

  • Experience writing in Forth programming language is highly desired.
  • Electrical engineering or computer engineering related BS or MS degree.
  • Working experience in small embedded systems
  • Working experience in digital communications protocols such as Ethernet, 802.11x, 802.15.4, USB, Bluetooth, etc.
  • Working experience in software development in Visual Basic
  • Experience working with Linux.

Build sub-assemblies and finished products per the production schedule. 

Job Duties:

  • Performs a variety of electronic and mechanical subassembly and assembly operations of a repetitive nature to build up units such as LED boards, cable harnesses, and simple electronic/mechanical assemblies.
  • May perform routine tasks in preparation for assembly such as cutting wire, stripping, wiring, and fastening connections.
  • May do Reworks
  • Must be able to pull raw cable and strip cable
  • Works from diagrams or established production practices
  • Uses small hand tools such as soldering iron, wire strippers, crimpers, etc.
  • May use potting material and other chemicals for building product
  • May operate drill presses, band saws, etc
  • Must have excellent soldering skills and fine eye/hand coordination.
  • Must be able to work on small color-coded boards
  • Must be able to work from prints, engineering specifications.

Other Responsibilities:

  • Prepare products for shipment and conduct quality control checks to ensure shipments are complete and correct according to the sales order information. 
  • Attend weekly production meetings and communicate the status of job assemblies to the project manager. Must have the ability to effectively deliver constructive feedback in a professional and calculated manner.
  • Assist Materials Coordinator with organizing parts and material in inventory areas and stock room. 
  • Load and unload items from machines, carts, trucks, and dollies. 
  • Participate in the annual physical inventory count.
  • Clean production area; sweep, mop and remove debris.
  • Return tools and material to their holding locations when done using them.


1 to 3 years of experience for:

  • Complex assembly skills
  • Excellent fine soldering skills
  • Experience in electronic construction/repair of PC Cards/wiring
  • Experience in cable assembly
  • Some Electrical theory preferred
  • Able to lift up to 70 pounds
  • Education: High School/Trade School
  • Good Communication Skills
